Annecy Guide is an independent guide to Annecy and its lake. I write the practical parts — how to get here, what things cost, what is worth booking ahead and what is better bought at the quay.

Who I am

I am Léa Vuillermoz. I was born in Annecy-le-Vieux, I am a licensed guide-conférencière, and I have worked the lake circuit for a decade — the Old Town in the morning, the villages and the Forclaz in the afternoon, the same loop several hundred times. I also swim in the lake all year, which is why the water-temperature advice on this site is blunter than most.

Being local is not automatically a qualification, so here is what it actually buys you: I know which of the summer questions have honest answers and which do not. Whether you can see Mont Blanc from the town. Whether there is really a direct train from Geneva. Whether the lake is warm enough in June. These are the questions visitors ask me on the quay every week, and the answers on this site are the answers I give in person.

What I do here

I write the guides, I check the numbers, and I read the tours before I list them. Every figure on this site was verified against a named source rather than copied from another guide — and where two sources disagree, I write the softer of the two and say so. I am not a tour operator and I do not sell tickets. When you are ready to book something, I send you to GetYourGuide, or, where the operator sells better direct, I send you to the operator instead.

That last part matters more here than on most guides. The single most popular thing to do in Annecy is a boat trip on the lake, and the honest advice is to buy it at the quay from the company that runs the boats. The cruise page says so in its first paragraph, above anything I could earn from.

How this site is funded

I earn a small affiliate commission when you book through a link on this site, at no extra cost to you. That is what keeps it free and keeps me writing. It does not change what I recommend, and on several pages here it costs me money to say the true thing — see the affiliate disclosure for the full picture.

Corrections are welcome and I act on them. If something on this site is out of date, or a price has moved, tell me and I will fix it and note when it changed.
